Help - Generalized Convulsive Epilepsy

Wed, 03/11/2015 - 02:36

Help.  Stuggling here and about to fall off the wagon.  36 y/o male just diagnosed with generalized convulsive epilepsy.  Was totally health and fine before back to back to back grand mal seizures in early Nov 2014.  Possibly suffered even more seizures before this three within 2 hours, as I was by myself, and I had to be taken via ambulance to the hospital and didn't wake up for 3 days in the ICU.  Was real freakin disoriented and confused when I woke up after 3 days, and since then, I have had these terrible weird and debilitating electrical sensations in my head that is also synchronized with my fast pulse, and I can also feel this in my legs as well.  I also have sinus tachycardia as well since this happened, but the worst part is this weird and strange feeling in my head that is difficult to describe. I know that I am having small convulsions as I can feel certain areas of my body twitching and they are also weird sensations, as I am always feeling them when my head feels like it is firing off.  Have been on carbamezepine and even while taking this medication, my ambulatory eeg - 72 hours - still shows up as always abnormal with rare sharp spikes all the time.  Given that I am well into my 30's, isn't this not normal for someone to be diagnosed with convulsive epilepsy?  Also, does anyone know what I am talking about when I refer to these weird, always firing electrical sensations going off in their head, that are also synchronized with their pulse??  This is debilitating and really annoying.  Also have constant ringing of the ears and several other symptoms with the main ones being noted above.  Also, I have a very painful back condition and my pain medication doesn't even work anymore, as I cannot find absolutely any releif, as I cannot feel the medication at all.  No telerance at all, and I never felt any relief.  Lastly, one day I forgot to take my carbamazepine, and I felt so freakin weird that it is difficult to describe.  I just felt very weak and could barely lift my arms and move my legs.  Please explain if you can.  Especially about the constant head and body sensations, if you have them, and what you have been taking to help.  Thx

WElcomeAnybody at any age weithe rich or poor in good health or not can have epilepsy. Many of the things you posted could be seizures. Wierd feeling in your head. legs and limbs feeling wierd or twitching. You mentioned the medication you are taking but didn't mention if the dosage had been raised or lowered. Forgetting medication can cause breakthru seizures. So can taking them later then it should be taken. Dosages if 2 times a day need to be 12 hours apart. Mine are taken at 8am and pm. If they are taken at 8am and 11 pm the 3 hour dofferent is lower during a 3 hour period. Theraputic levels are ste with dosages and the 3 hour delay may be lower then th theraputic levels your doctor wants. The EEG showing abnormalities shows seizure activity. The neurologist has the information of where that activity is comming from.Do call or visit your neurologist and discuss this issue with him if you are still having issues. In that call or visit ask him if the dosage needs to be increased ot decreased? Is there another medication that can be coupled with this one that can help control oyur seizures better? When should I be taking my meds? Why do I still have head aches and the pain pills for my back aren't working. Understand that medications can counter other medications so he needs to know all the medications you use which even means over the counte meds. I hope this helps Joe
