Health Insurance

That little poll about whether or not it is more difficult to get insurance when you have E really got me thinking. I recently was added on an insurance plan by my (soon to be EX) significant other. I realized that when I cancel it, and get my own I will be paying over $500.00 a month for insurance, but my E. and my sz's will not be covered for 18 months, nor will injuries resulting from it...ok, but now how do I pay for meds??? Let alone trying to come up with money for a neuro and tests, I couldn't afford it before, and now I have an insurance bill almost equal to my monthly rent!!! I just figured I'd throw this one out there, and I may just start doing something to get this problem more attention (especially now, there's a local election coming up, too). I'm starting a petition, Susan

Hey Susan, hope all is well with ya girl. That is a great idea about starting a petition. Someone has to start somewhere. So far here in Maine I get my (SSD) Social Security/Disability (Medicare) that covers a big part of my Medical and besides that I also have Mainecare which covers the other percentage that Medicare doesn't care as well as all my medications. Good thing cause one of my meds would cost me $1500.00 a month. Maine is good with helping. But if someone has to just go out and get indiviual insurance it can be wicked costly. For my husband to put me on his insurance at work it would cost us about $500.00 also if I was to lose any insurance I have now. This is a big reason I am studying a Medical/research course and plan on being certified so that when my surgery is over and I don't qualify for my SSD any longer that I can get a full time job with good benefits and insurance. I don't want to wait til I have nothing to help me with my medications. This insurance thing kills me because my heart goes out to the elderly folks that have to choose between their medications or eating or keeping warm. It just isn't fair. When ya get the petition going send it my way. Good luck with it.
