Haven't got a diagnosis but told to have Keppra, advice please!

Hi Everyone, For the last year and a bit I have been suffering from undiagnosed arm jerking and chest pain on my left side. After having an MRI which came back clear and an EEG which I am awaiting results from, my neurologist has suggested taking Keppra. He discussed some of the possible side effects, mainly discussed planning pregnancy and mood but I am slightly concerned with the long list of side effects Keppra has. I am currently studying a Masters degree as well as working part-time so I am concerned that the side effects may effect my academic studies and my work. I discussed these concerns with my neurologist and GP and both have said that it shouldn't affect my studies or work but I wondered if anyone has had any problems with taking Keppra and managing studying/working? Also has anyone else been told to take AED's without having a confirmed diagnosis before? Thank you in advance, Heather x

Hi Heather. I've been taking Keppra for about 4-5 years now and the only other difference I noticed after starting it was just my balance is always a little shaky. Occasionally I'll stumble or trip over my own 2 feet and whenever I go to see my doctor he's always checking how I walk. Almost like a file sobriety test. That's why I always hold the railing when I'm walking up and down the stairs. I'm also taking 5000 mg. of it plus 3 other anti-convulsants. It's not as bad as it sounds.
