Had a seizure last night while sleeping

Mon, 01/05/2015 - 16:14

I'm' 24, male, and I was diagnosed with epilepsy 2 and a half years ago after having about 6-7 seizures in a span of a year, sometimes in my sleep and sometimes in public(the first one I had was while on an airplane, second one was while driving in which I did crash into a tree, but was not really hurt). It's been a year since I last saw my neurologist and I been seizure free since even a little longer than that. The two seizures I had before last seeing him were also in my sleep. So to be honest, I haven't been consistent with the times I take my pills(Keppra, two 500mg/day) as I sometimes take it real early, and sometimes would take it at noon(depending on when I wake up). I was up late last night, staying up till 2:30am..but can't remember if I took my pill or not. So I woke up, with blood on my pillow and feeling disoriented. I couldn't remember if I immediately took a pill after waking up, so I took one a few hours later. I made a lot of mistakes here and I've made it a point to turn on two alarms(8 am, 8 pm) every day so I never forget and I'm consistent. Also, I should point out that this doesn't feel as bad as seizures I've had in the past as my headache doesn't hurt a ton...but there was a decent amount of blood on the pillow. My tongue wasn't bitten too bad. I did have on beer last night. Anyway, I am a college student and sometimes drink a lot but have never had issues in the past with alcohol and seizures. I have scheduled an appointment with my neurologist who isn't available until Feb 17! Anyway, I'm not sure how concerned I should be about this recent seizure and if it's a cause for emergency.  I had 6-7 in the span of a year before getting on medication, but have been seizure free since I started taking Keppra.
