Grand Mal Seizure Recovery Time?

Mon, 08/31/2015 - 09:28
I'm 16 and was diagnosed at the beginning of the year with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy. I've always had myoclonic jerks and pedimals but Saturday morning I had a grand mal and it's now Monday yet I still feel really strange. I'm nauseous and just don't feel like my usual self. Is it normal to feel that way afterwards? How long will it last?

Without knowing how long the seizure was it is hard to give you definite information. Another reason is that each persons seizure is different. Just like each person is different. Under stand that in a grand mal seizure every muscle in your body is jerking with all the strength it has. To give you something to think about. You have heard or read about a person picking up a car to get someone out from under it. That is the kind of strength I am talking about. When I had my first grand mal I was asleep for about 6 hours I was tired for 2 days but I still got thru it. But then that was about 50+ years ago.Have you contacted your neurologist and discussed this seizure with him? If not you should especially if your medications and dosages haven't been adjusted for awhile. If you gained weight or had any other changes then it does effect the medications. U had to have mine changes 4 times in 9 months. A growing boy does have changes when Turing into a teen.I hope this helpsJoe

I tried some breaths of supplemental oxygen and that seemed to help me feel normal more rapidly.  Whenever I felt a wonky feeling I'd take a breath from the canister.  You can buy the small portable canisters. Just don't over do it, too much O2 can be detrimental to your health.  I too am having seizures after a TBI some 13 years ago.  Last year in my sleep I had 2 Grand Mal seizures and this year I've had a few Simple Partial Seizures.  I'm trying to go as natural as possible in my treatment rather than jumping on the Keppra prescribed by the Neurologist.  Currently, I'm taking LDN, CBD oil, an array of supplements such as 5-HTP, Alpha Lipoic Acid, MCT oil, b-6, b-12, mugwort, magnesium.  I've also done 10 hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatments, acupuncture, and am planning to start neurofeedback.

I think the recovery time

I think the recovery time depends on the individual. I have generalized focal seizures, but I was recently released from the hospital. I am undergoing testing for brain surgery. The grand Mal seizure I had in the hospital was the first I have had in over 13 years. I still have not fully recovered. I cannot  taste any food, and I still feel disoriented. I hope you feel better soon
