getting driver's licensed reinstated in MA

Wed, 08/27/2014 - 13:32

Good afternoon, I am new to this site, and at this time, I cannot drive b/c my driver's license was revoked.  In MA you must be seizure free for at least 6mo before you can drive again....I have never had my license revoked, and I was wondering what the process is of getting your drivers license reinstated...is it as simple as just getting a note from your MD and bringing it to the RMV?  do you have to meet with a hearings officer?  if so, does anyone know what they may ask you?  do you have to take a drivers test all over again?  I'm really hoping that with a simple note from my neurologist that they will reinstate my license....any advice or insight on this topic would be helpful.  Thank you.

The time period is not the

The time period is not the same in all states. All states have laws which are written to protect the people of that state. One of those laws is driving and having seizures. Hospitals and doctors are required to fill out forms regarding drivers licenses. If yo uhave gone the period of time without any seizures then you need to contact your neurologist. He has to fill out forms which go to the state offices and then to the DMV. Revoked licenses are then reinstated. A questions I may have is the law is to rpotect otherrs. It may hinder you. But what would happen if you had a seizure while driving? Could you have a crash? In said crash could you injure yourself or others? In said crash could it cause others to crash? Think long and hard before trying to get your license back. I say that because I had gone 3+ years without any kind of seizure and had one about a week before I was to be tested. I know how to drive and can or would if in an emergency. I started having seizures when I was about 12 I have been living and dealing with epilepsy for 50+ years. I have never had a license. I have done almost everything I wanted to do. Some things took longer but I did them. I hope this helps Joe

I had a grand mal seizure for

I had a grand mal seizure for 1st time in March 2014, ( all tests were negative) none since but was told I couldn't drive for 6 mos!  My brother-in-law is a diabetic and has had incidents where his blood sugar was too high and he blacked out while driving. No one was hurt; he did not hit anyone or any other vehicle, but could have.  He has never been told by a doctor that he can't drive! What is difference between  a diabetic having a blackout while driving and someone having a seizure while driving?   I don't get that!
