Feelings prior to seizures

Thu, 04/16/2015 - 10:53

Hello again.  I was thinking back to when I experienced several g/m seizures for the first time last year, and it has been pretty difficult trying to remember any feelings and experiences.  I experienced several consecutive seizures for the first time late last year.  Luckily, I haven't experienced any of them again.  But I would like to know how people have felt immediately prior to experiencing the seizures.

Again, looking back, it has been extremely difficult trying to recall the specific feelings prior to experiencing them, but I do recall my mind telling me that something was going to hit me, as I had been outside doing yard work, and I immediately felt the need to go inside and relax.  It wasn't an impending doom feeling either.  Something just told me to go inside and to sit down.  That's all that I remember, except maybe for me feeling the need to flex both of my calf muscles (as weird as that sounds).  But ever since I woke up from being unconscious three days after the seizures, it seems like I have become distressed from having experienced seizures and from being diagnosed with the disorder.

Yes, I do know that some folks have auras to warn them, while some people don't experience much, if anything. But in looking back, something was telling me to go inside and to relax.  It would be nice to know why I followed suit, and to remember how I felt, as it would be helpful to understand this for future reference. I know this is a rambling, but I was hoping if anyone could expand with descriptions of how they felt prior to having their first seizures.

And if you are reading this Jazz, the last message in my other thread was never posted, but I was trying to relay that my epileptologist sucks, as they have spent approximately 10 minutes of their time in the last three visits.  It seems like the doctor is only happy with posting one paragraph patient care summaries that do not answer or address any of my concerns.  I am now looking to get a second opinion from another neurologist, and I plan on finding one via US News and World Report.  Thanks again buddy.

you nay never remember or know the feeling you had prior to going into the grand mal seizure. Especially since your body could be telling you you need to go in  because your body may have needed relaxing. As for your neurologist only being with you for 10 minutes. Well if he got answers to his questions and you didn't ask any then he thinks you are happy with everything. I know been there done that. I have been with the same group of neurologists since 1970. It wasn't until about 35 years ago that I started asking questions. Now with every question Doc asks me I have one for him.  One of his questions is always have your seizures reduced in numbers?  I answer that with either a or no. If he thinks a dosage change might reduce the seizures I ask questions. I was on the maximum dosage but was still having seizures. I asked him if coupling the medication with another would help and we talked about the medications that it could be coupled with. Basically like other doctors if their questions are answered and there are no questions then the doctor whether he be a neurologist or a plain old GP the visit will be short.  So with any doctors visit I have I will always have questions. One main questions when a doctor prescribes a medication is "Will this medications counter my other medications. As for using US news and world report to find a new neurologist ??? Why not use this site and call the 24/7 help line where there are people that can answer your questions and find one in your area???I hope this helps and you do get the assistance you needJoe
