Hello again: Awhile ago when I had my second seizure at 46 y/o I thought my whole world crashed down around me and everything held in high regard was over. Yes, I had pitty parties felt sorry for myself and almost let it get the best of me. Well I finally decided to get up & fight back and not let this thing beat me. I over came the short term memory loss by doing memory exercises such as "suduko, crosswords jeapordy, and forcing myself to remember small details. I even went as far as hiding notes to be found two, three days later. Hell I had time on my hands being forced to stay out of work with no license. I over came my balance problems by practicing almost every chance I got. (I"m sure the neighbors thought I was going nuts) I jumped rope everyday and practiced hitting a speed bad which requires a lot of hand eye coordination. I started walking then gradually started running too. At first all these things were hard if not down right embarrasing. I had to fight for my job too. (Thanks to the National Epilepsey foundation who are great) My job was trying to force me to take a disability pension. Once I contacted "National Epilepsey Foundation" they changed their tune quick. I am a Police Sergeant in NJ. I go back to work 1/2/07 Yeah baby! I know there will be those at the JOB that will think I can't or wont be the same. They are right I will be better than ever, even on my best day before. I will have to work inside for awhile on the Patrol Operations desk, but that aint all that bad, beats staying home staring at the walls, wishing I was there. My seizures seem to be controlled and I have overcame at least the obvious side effects of the meds.. I will also get my license back in Sept.07, providing no more incidents. That is also the only restriction the doctor has placed on me to return to work. My message to you all is don't give up hope don't go down w/o a fight. It is always darkest before dawn but the sun will rise. Alright I am going to go blast Marvin Gaye's "Lets get it on" now. About time the neighbors woke up anyway. (kidding) Happy New Year to all!! "7" is a lucky number to. Go out and "Live like you were dying" (Tim Mcgraw, Tuggs son) Pardon the spelling & Grammer.
