epileptologist response time

Sat, 06/17/2006 - 10:30
My daughter has an excellent epileptologist who is very helpful when she meets with him in person, but who does not return calls or emails in a timely way when her seizures and/or side-effects get worse. Does anyone know the standard of care for doctor response in this kind of situation and, also, hoe long does in generally take for you all to get a return call? Thanks

My current doctor is the first to ever return an email - and that is just once. My previous doctor himself never returned calls, only his nurses did and that was generally by EOB the next business day. Getting an appointmetn was another thing altogether. That was generally weeks to months. Sometimes the easiest way to get a response was simply make an appointment and just wait.

I hardly ever talk to my epileptologist when I call I usually speak to his nurse, who also goes on all of his rounds with him. I do know that he has a patient load of 5000 and there just isn't time to return hundreds of phone calls a day. I do leave a message with Sandy and she speaks with Dr. Singh and she calls back that day. There aren't very many epileptologist's in the country so they are quite busy. I would expect return calls within 3 business days unless it is an emergency. Heather "I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it." Maya Angelou
