Epileptic with all normal tests?

Tue, 01/20/2015 - 11:33

Hey everyone! I was wondering if there is anyone here who has epilepsy that has had all normal tests? I have several Tonic Clonic seizures a month, sometimes up to 3 a day but my EEG, video EEG, MRI, and CT scan have all come back normal. Has anyone had a similar experience and may help shed some light on this for me?

HiOh and yes there are a lot of people that have epilepsy that have normal tests. The CT and MRI show what the brain looks like and if there are any deformaities or scar tissue. The EEG's show the electrical output comming from the brain. However the EEG can only read the output to a certain depth of the brain and the activity causing your seizures could be deeper. All it takes to diagnose epilepsy is 2 seizures.Your neurologist should have prescribed medications to control your seizures. If he didn't then you do need to contact him to find out what you are to do to stop your seizures. I hope this helps and you get the assistance you need. Joe

Thank you Joe, this puts me to ease a lot. I have had many more that 2, they first diagnosed them a pseudo seizures but when I researched it the characteristics don't match. To be honest I don't think the doctors I have have no idea what they are talking about and don't seem to care or listen to my symptoms and concerns. I was prescribed Depakote and Lamictal but seemed to make matters worse. My doctor's approach was to keep upping the dose, which continued to worsen matters and on top of that give me terrible side affects. I think he was getting to the point where he was poisoning my body :/ I just don't know what to do or where to turn!
