Epilepsy Medications and Pregnancy

Fri, 06/17/2016 - 16:30
Hi all. I had my first seizure two months ago, where I had two in the space of a day and then a flurry of small ones following that. I was given a number of drugs/steroids to bring them under control and since being released from hospital am now on a high dosage of Keppra (1000mg) and Trileptal (600mg) per day (I have not had any further seizures over these last two months). I know this is early days, but I'm 31 years old and in the next two years or so will be starting to think about having kids. I have been told that the medication can increase your chances of defects - but not having the medication and then having a seizure can be worse. Does anyone have any experience with this that can give me an insight into what happened with them? I know everyone is different, but any thoughts or discussions they had with their doctor at the time would be helpful so I know some of my potential options.
