Epilepsy and PAnic Attacks

Tue, 01/23/2007 - 18:24
Hi, I've lived with Epilepsy 21 years but it's only been over the past 2-3 years that i've started with panic attacks. I know they're panic attacks and not fits as they aren't the same mass of emotion as my seizures. This has started a vicious circle as my panic attacks bring on my fits and vice versa!!! Has anyone had this problem? Luv Edwina X

Hi, I have been awake since 4.30am this morning. woken by my partner who has had yet another panic attack in the middle of the night.  He has been suffering from Panic Attacks since he was 18yrs old (now 42yrs old). He seemed to "cope" with them for years. Mornings always seem to be the worst ones.  Over the last few years  though they brought on a seizure and up to now he has had 3 seizures caused with his Panic attacks. Now he can't "cope" with Panic attacks for fear of having a seizure. So, like many of you say it is a vicious circle. My heart goes out to him because I love him and hate to see him suffering and living with this untreatable illness, which in my opinion has not been enough research. I really feel for all of you. I did not know others suffered with Panic attacks and seizures.  I really do beleive that stress has a massive impact on causing Panic attacks.  My partner has tried all sorts of therapies but nothing seems to work. He is even scared of going to work now. I hope you all do not mind me posting a comment. Take care everyone.

Hello,

I have had panic attacks for the past 16 years.  I do not have epilepsy but I have noticed that medication that is intended for panic attacks is also prescribed for epilepsy, so I am trying to find the connection.  I am wondering if the cause of epilepsy  is the same cause of panic attacks.  My panic attacks have ruled my life.  I used to self medicate with alcohol but that only made things worst in the long run.  I am now on Clonazepam but I do not like the dependence or the side affects (extreme fatigue, confusion, memory loss, etc.)

Maybe some of us can work together in finding the relation between the two.

Hi edwina, I have GrandMals and have anxiety attacks. i have had anxiety attacks for over 15 yrs. These attacks have caused me to be hospitalized several times, my heart will go so fast, like I thought it was going to explode or stop. I also would get very pale along with dizziness and at times thought I was going to die. I know how u feel, I do not have seizures with those. I think both of these ailments are bad. Right now Iam trying to find out what is best to take for the attacks. Docs do not want to give me anything else with My E meds because it could make me very sleepy and not with it. So i do have this problem. They have put me on Zanex before but it really does not help so I am not taking anything for it at the time. U can e-mail me if u like to or catch me in chat.
