Epilepsy and age

Mon, 02/05/2007 - 09:58
I'm a 28 yr old black male and I've was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 12/13. I take 400mg of Dilantin daily. I've always had grand mal/tonic clonic seizures and nothing less. There was a time during my early 20's when I had a "f**k the world" attitude and I was avoiding my medication, drinking ALL the time, and getting high. During this time my seizures weren't as severe and as frequent as they've been. Now that I'm older I've given up that other lifestyle and have just been laying low, but my seizures have been even more frequent and detrimental and the effects afterwards are simply horrible. A few months ago I was sent into intensive care for 4 days with a fever of 105 and I had 3 grand mal seizures that day I was admitted. Now it seems if I have a seizure it takes almost a week for me to get back to my normal mental state. I was told that with age the condition lessens but for me it's just the older I get the worse they are.
