Ear ringing with temporal lobe epilepsy?

Mon, 05/29/2006 - 18:25
Hi, folks. I've read that a ringing in the ears or other auditory sensations can be simple partial seizures. I sometimes get (and typically earlier in the day before a more noticable simple partial) a loud ringing in my left ear. I can still hear fine in my right ear, but in my left ear it sounds like a TV test pattern when the channel goes off the air. It's the only thing I can hear in my left ear, though I can still go on talking, working etc. It lasts about half a minute. Does this sound familiar to anyone? The wierd thing is, my seizure focus is in my left temporal lobe. Doesn't that mean that any auditory hallucination would be in my RIGHT ear? I don't know if the general rule of left brain/right body applies to auditory inputs. Anyone with similar experiences? Thanks!

I have long term temporal

I have long term temporal lobe epilepsy, which appeared after a head injury. Normally it's not too bad, minimal meds. Just before xmas last year, I was working  in the garden, felt  a bit odd, went and washed my face. I want totally and instantly deaf in my left ear. Was lie this for 24 hrs. When my hearing returned it was about 70% with loud tinnitus. Which I've never had before. My meds were increased, and I've had no other symptoms, but the noise is still there, six months on. It varies in intensity. I pretend it's cicadas :) Doesn't annoy me as much.

I become overwhelmed by multiple sounds and have had constant ring in my ears. Marital stress has been triggering me recently. You'd think 2500mg of keppra would help

Yes I'm 38 now when I was 25 ,I started having Temproa lobe seizures after my surgery they went away. A month ago I had a seizure after 9 years. But now there different I hear sounds or my dreams tell me its going to happen. I know it sounds crazy but it hasn't failed me yet. I had MRI with contrast at CTScans and everything looks good according to the Neurologist. But after being seizure free for so many years and for them to come back but much different, I'm also looking for a second opinion.
