E Diagnosis....

Fri, 10/13/2006 - 13:15
Ive had panic disorder for past 20 years....periods of remission/relapse, etc...during major attacks I black out...supposedly unusual for panic but still got panic disorder diagnosis which I believe is accurate....neuro wants me to do the veeg......i doubt they will find anything.....so im thinking of not going thru with it....i have a tough time with medications and for what i have read on this web site....sounds like E medications are worse than panic medications(ie prozac, klonopin, etc......ive taken low dosages of both...ie 5 mg prozac and/or .25 mg klonopin)....PLUS seems like many with E dont get a positive VEEG reading anyway? Whats the point.....will my life change with an E diagnosis....I doubt it...will probably get worse with the stronger drugs........PS>...wouldnt an ambulatory eeg be better....this way I can go to places that make me panic and see how it records VS being comfortable and panic free in a hospital for 4 days with veeg?

The veeg may lead to better treatment. One thing about this site is that you see more of the people that have problems with their epilepsy. People well controlled don't visit too often. Another thing about milligrams of medications given, is that it is all drug dependent. The number of milligrams varies for all medications. Also, so do the side effects, and everyone reacts different to the medications. I think it would be better to get to know the cause of your blackouts, and not rule out epilepsy before you even get the testing done. Discuss with your doctor the differences and advanages and disadvantages of the different eegs. It is your doctors responsibility to discuss options with you.
