Driving vs Getting off the Drugs

Fri, 06/16/2006 - 07:18
I recently had the epilepsy surgery May 11, and if I stay seizure free I could get my drivers license some time in November. Around the same time I could start being slowly weaned off my medication which would delay me from getting my driver license or stop me from getting it if my seizures come back. I was wondering if any had any success going med free and which you prefer to be med free or being able to drive.

Can you not get your license if you are on seizure medication? My husband had his surgery March 17 and is allowed to get his license after 6 months if he has been seizure free. His doctor is not going to start taking him off his main drugs until 1 year. My husband has not driven since mid 2000 and is looking forward to driving again. I however am nervouse to have him drive again. I have been driving him everywhere since 2000 but need some relief as well.

WHERE I'M FROM YOU HAVE TO BE SEIZURE FREE FOR 6 MONTHS TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE AGAIN. I MISS NOT DRIVING BUT I DONT WONT TO HURT MYSELF OR MY FAMILY OR HIT SOMEONE ELSE. I WAS JUST PUT ON A NEW MEDS TODAY AND NOW I'M TAKING TO DIFFERENT TYPE NOW AND THE SECOND MEDS HAS SOME SIDE EFFECT I'M AFRAID OF GETTING. IT MIGHT BE A WHILE BEFORE I'M ALLOW TO DRIVE AGAIN AND I WILL NOT BE RUSHING IT EITHER. SO GOOD LUCK IN GETTING YOUR DRIVING LICENSE. TAKE BE CREFUL AND STAY SAFE WHEN DRIVING YOURSELF AGAIN.

Hey John, I'm currently waiting to get my license back myself. I was going through a change to a different meds as well as having my license suspended at the same time for 3 months. I got my license back after 8 months and now the DMV put me on medical suspention and told me I had to see my doctor every 3 months and he had to say it was ok for me to drive. One month later had an seizure at work and now my license was re-suspended for 6 months. Well it's been 3 and a half months with no seizures and I'm going to try to get my license back from the DMV in another 2 weeks. I guess what I'm trying to say is see if there is a way to have all your meds reduced and get everything worked out with time to spare before you get your license back. I'd just hate to see the samething happen to you thats happening to me. Jerry
