Driving with Epilepsy

Tue, 10/06/2015 - 14:47
I have partial complex seizures that are the result of multiple concussions from my football playing days back in high school. I had gone over a year and a half without any issues but had a random seizure a couple weeks ago that lasted barely two minutes. Because of that, I have to wait 6 months before I'm legally allowed to drive again. My question is, is there a way to shorten that 6 month length of time. Here in TN the whole 6 month thing is a state law and I'm of the opinion that 6 months is a little excessive and would love if it were reduced to maybe 4 months. How could I go about trying make this happen?

You can't.. Each state has

You can't.. Each state has laws and regulations which are written to protect the people. When I was a teen the time limit was 2 years. I went 3 and was studying for my license and I had another seizure. The license is revoked and will not be reinstated without a doctor letting them know you have been seizure free.Ask yourself a few questionsHow would you feel if you were driving and had a seizure which killed someone or injured them badly? How would you tell your parents why you had that accident?Could you look your friends family in the eyes if you had an accident which crippled their kid because he was in the car with you?I know it isn't easy for people today to go a period of time without driving. I have been doing it for 40+ years. You see I have gone long periods of time without a seizure only to have one. At times it was 3 months and others it was 6 months. The seizures I have today and seconds in length. they affect my right hand. I know what's happening but I can not react for those seconds. How long does it take to turn the steering wheel to avoid an accident? split seconds is the answer. I have never driven in my life. So I do know someone can live and associate and work and do the things they need to do without driving. It does take planning but it is being done every day.
