TOPAMAX withdraw - children

Mon, 01/12/2015 - 03:56

Hello all,

I'm new here and desperate.

i'm the father of a 7 yrs old daughter.

She is disabled and has epilepsy since 1 yr old.

Last year we started Topamax , and she had 100mg per day divided in 2 doses. The epilepsy got better for a short period, but she was really sedated and out of this world.

We decreased to 75 mg, and since february last year until December she took this dose.

In November the meds started to wean off her from Topamax with 25mg every one-two weeks, after she was intorduced Sabril (1000 mg divided in two).

Seizures decreased in frequency, her state was better, more alert, etc. She has also Clonazepam 1,5 per day and phenobarbital 75 mg per day.

In december at the beggining she was completely off Topamax, until 2-3 weeks ago she was pretty okay, when she started to have agotations.

Slowly during last 2 weeks these episodes of agitations got worse, more frequent, nad more severe.

Since 3 days she is in ER because she started to have nearly continous agitations and screams. Terrifying screams.

Doctors here are helpless, they made check-ups everything looks oaky but she si screaming like hell.

Can this be from Topamax withdrawl.

Has  anyone experienced such ....

Please help me with opinions , we are desperate.
