three doses of tegertol xr

my doctor has told me to take three doses of tegertol xr. And I have started to do this. Tegertol xr is a twelve hour medicence but I am now taking it 8 hours apart. It is 200mg. Is this okay or not? What should I do?

Is your Dr. doing regular blod test to check your levels? I have just started taking tegretol XR about 3 weeks ago and my Dr. was ver clear about how carfull I need to be while on the medication and overdose. he also will do blod levels every month for 6 months to make sure i am not over dosed as tegretol is very potant from what I am told and most often with time released medications should not be taken more than twice a day and that is only in extream cases. I would question why he wants me to take it this way. You have ever right to question your Dr's motive.Let me know what happens.

It should be okay, because I had to do the same thing, for a while, until they had me take 400 mgs in the morning and at bedtime.They are doing this like that, because you are taking such a low dose, and they want you to have enough, so they are giving it to you in lower increments, and more frequently, so the levels don't fall off. With that low of a dose, the level will decrease much faster than a higher one--even with XR.Don't worry.Nancy

That's a good question. Maybe b/c you are titrating up on this and he wants to get it into your system quicker. Call and ask: Is it b/c you want it in my system quicker? Is this going to be like this all the time? When do I stop doing this? I really think you need to be totally aware of the docs plans now, instead of having to wait for another visit.
