Son has night seizures and my mom says he is faking.

We are new to the seizure world and what I would like to know is if anyone experienced people not wanting to know anymore about the seizures?  I know at first I could not stop talking about it because I was so scared.  But now I feel like I am getting a freezing out from my family.  This is fine...I have finally figured out to shut my mouth and not ever bring it up.  This has been hard  because the seizures have never gone away...he just had one now...anyway I felt scared and did not know where to go for the longest time...8 months now..we finally have a good doctor so things are better.  But, I stupidly would tell my mom about the weird seizures that my son has.  She told my he was acting so that he did not have to go to school.  I spend 24 hr a day...figuring out...504s, medications, doctor calls, pharmacy calls, insurance calls, no sleep...all for seizures that are not even real??  Oh my god...I still cannot believe how stupid she must think I am.  His eyes roll back...one side of his face droops, he giggles in a creapy voice and moves his arms all over the place.    What a good little actor.  My heart is literally broken by this woman and I know right now she is pissed at me for the text message I left her!!!  How dare they!!!  Walk a mile in his shoes!!!!  Walk a mile in mine.  But I felt bad all day...for sticking up for myself and my son.  I sometimes think is it better for everyone to witness these?  Even the teacher asked..why only at night...I promised him that if they get real bad they will spill over.  I feel so angry.  Of course everyone has pointed that out to me too...this must be the cause...me and my emotions...I wasnt emotional when they started...he had strokes that started these.  Thank god he is happy.  He seems oblivious to it all.

There are reasons epilepsy is

There are reasons epilepsy is not talked about much. It all goes back to the stigma associated with it. Most people don't know about all the different types of seizures so a seizure to them is a grand mal seizure. Nocturmnal seizures are just that at night or right before going to sleep or after waking up. My step father didn't want to accept I had epilepsy until I had a seizure infront of him/ He made the mistake of trying to hold me down rather then move the coffee table. He never made that mistake again. I guess he didn't like being tossed over my body by a 13 year old kid. The stigma is about 2 thousand years old and it does go back to the time of Cesear. Yup the roman had grand mal seizures. Grand (big) mal (fit) known back then  as the falling sickness. If I had a seizure it was during the day and I had many before I had a grand mal. Those seizures today would be called asbence or simple partial seizures. Back when I had them they were Petite Mal (small fit) or focal motor seizures. I had them for about 2 years and had been written up for day dreaming in class when in reality those day dreams were seizures. It was hard for Pete to accept my epilepsy but he did and he learned a lot about them. He also told other people about the different kinds of seizures I might have so when I was with him they watched out and yes asked questions. I hope this helps and you get your family to understand what is happening to their grandson Joe

You might go to u-tube and see if there are any seizures that look like your sons and present your mother with it and other seizures that have been videoed I know many have. It is a way for her to see what he does and it might bring her back to the reality that anybody at any age can have epilepsy.

To let you know a little more

To let you know a little more about the stigma and that more people are understaning more today. In the 1960's many people with epilepsy were being put in homes. Yup " Out of site out of mind". people didn't want their family associated wit people with epilepsy. In the 1970's there were still some states that wouldn't let people with epilepsy get a marriage license So  in many ways things have come a long way but then there are others who still think like they did back then because it was grilled into them.
