Is this something I should worry about

Mon, 08/30/2004 - 05:51

I have Epilepsy.  I haven't had very many in recent years, but I have had one or two lately.  I'm not so worried about me, the problem is this....  My boyfriend has been having episodes that are either seizures or very similar to seizures.  The seem to only happen when he coughs really badly.  I have seen a few of these lately.  He is now telling me it has been going on for a while now, but he didn't want me to worry so he hadn't said anything to me about it.  Is this something I should worry about?  Oh and he does not go to doctors if he can avoid it.  (It doesn't help that he has no insurance either)

Any Ideas anyone????

Time for a butt kicking session..... all the way to the doctor's office.  Even with no insurance you know what can happen if this is something serious..... find a professional.

First, if you're really a girlfriend it's your job to re-assure him you will except him as is or it's time for him to tell you he's moving on to someone else. Other then that go to like a county nurse and ask for suggestions, but he must go to the doctor.

I have tried to get him to a doctor about this and other things,(he thiinks he cracked a rib recently, but would not get it checked out, because they couldn't do anything about it anyway). It's hard to explain, but he really really hates doctors. I guess partly because he used to have a issue with drugs, mostly prescriptions. He doesn't want to get any medicine for this reason. Also, I had an issue with a doctor abusing me a few years ago, and it has damaged his and my trust in the profession.

Oh, and what do you mean if I'm really a girlfriend?? That was rude. If I wasn't worried about him and cared about him, would I have bothered to ask for help?  Pa-lease !!!  I am not a child I am over 30 yrs old, I know what it means to care about someone.  I am truely concerned, but he a difficult person sometimes. As I said it only happens when he coughs, I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this. It seems odd to me. I don't understand.

Oh and I have to find a new doctor myself because the current one is not taking my health seriously.  So, can you see some of the problems here?  I just want to know if anyone has heard of anything like this.  I plan to talk to someone about this, but I have to find someone I trust, and who I thing would be honest with me. I do not trust my doctor at all.
