Sick and Tired of Keppra Outbrusts

Sun, 04/26/2015 - 12:55

hi,

My Fiance has complex partial seziures and about two years ago a Doctor in Montreal put him on the drug Keppra. It is a wonderful drug when it works he will go months without seziures but its the anger outbrusts I cannot deal with. I have spoken to his doctor who tried to talk to my fiance about it. He just denied he was angry all the time. He is not the same person that I fell in love with, we are suppose to get married in a month and I am not sure if I can go through with it. He is so mean all the time, he screams and yells over the littlest things. If something doesn't go right he stews and gets angry, if someone doesn't use their manners he will not move until the person uses them. He is embarrasing and he doesn't see anything wrong. Just reccently I convinced him to go back to Montreal and get the surgery to remove the scar tissue, but I am scared what if he gets out of surgery and he goes right back onto keppra. I am not sure if I could stand by and watch how angry he gets.

If anyone has any advice it would be fantastic, as of right now not being on keppra is not an option as its the only thing that works. He is upto 19 pills a day, with Keppra, Tegretol and clorazepam all with the max doses.

Thanks

He may not need the surgery

He may not need the surgery and he may be able to get things streightened out. You need to discuss this issue with his neurologist since one of the side effects with keppra or it's generic is mood swings, You could probable fine posts regarding it in this site. Some people called it Kepp-rage.He might be taken off keppra and put on another medication. I do know keppra is a good medication mainly because I have been using it for years. Side effects do happen with some people. 5-8% and sometimes 12% of the people taking a medication will get side effects. So he may be one of those that have a side effect. UCB Pharmaare the makers and they also make Vimpat which might be used in keppras place but you need to discuss this issue with the neurologist. I do hope this helps and he gets the assistance he needs Joe

JennThat medication makes your body hold water. I gained about 30-40 lbs. in the first month. It didn't reduce my seizures and I was moved to another medication. In the month after being taken off it I lost about 60% of what I had gained,

My sister use to be on keppra caused so many mood swings and anger when she was only 11 that she tried choking herself with a belt and escalate to her hurting herself switched to Lamictial and has been on it since is now 14 and emotional and anger issues are very minimal besides the hormone ones
