Need Answers Please

Hello to everyone. I am looking for some answers.

Let me start out by giving some background details.

The person in my house (Amy) is a 28 yr old female. She was diagnosed with Epilepsy when she was 9 months old after a tumble down a flight of stairs.

From the age of 9mnths to 26 yrs old she lived with her Mother, Step-Father and brother. At the age of 27 her mother (my aunt) passed away. 1 month after we also lost our grandmother. 1 month after that it was decided from several members of my family that she shouldn't be living with her step-father no longer, let me tell you why. From as far back as I can remember he was never really nice to her, both him and her mother were alcoholics and we all suspected abuse but could never prove it.

Ok thats enough background, I'm sure ya'll get the picture.

 My questions are as follows............

1. Can a siezure be caused from nitemares?

2. Has anyone ever witnessed someone in a seizure that seems as if they regress in age?

I say regress because Amy says things while in a seizure that i vividly remember her saying as a child.

Amy cannot be controled while in these seizures. She wants to get up and walk around, she reaches for things that are not there. She says Momma over and over again. She screams, coughs, whistles, snaps her fingers and claps her hands, Are these typical?

3. Can a seizure be caused from thinking about things too much? Amy thinks about some of the littlest things way too much and over analyzes things.

If anyone here would be so kind to respond to my questions or have any insight as to how to deal with some these issues I would greatly appreciate it.

hi,  this is not an easy place for anyone to be.  if it is suspected that she is being abused.  call the police.  call social services. get someone there to investigate.  the family is not the ones to do the investigation.  straight forward, objective, and protection if needed.  the other things you describe can be seizure related, but they could also be related to abuse.  it needs to be evaluated by a professional.  she needs to be protected.  if you are not able/willing contact me throught my e-mail and i will phone the authorities in your area.  sometimes there are situations that make people unable to make the calls.  All people need to be protected.  epilepsy is just another aspect of the situation.

seizures have the possiblity of nightmare, or the other way around.  this stuff could be grief, stress, or memory.  the regression may be a safe place in her mind.  it really needs professional evaluation.  I know that i am a broken record on this, but is important.  i hope it helps.  rikk

I'm still fairly new to the site, but my history of seizures is resulting from a situation of domestic violence - more specifically, a head injury during the course of it. Sometimes, my seizures also cause hallucinations - you mention she sometimes reaches for things that aren't there. If she is being abused, it might be beneficial to pay careful attention to things she says or does during or immediately before or after seizures, because if she is abused, she's most likely to show or tell you about during the postictal stage, if she regularly has one. For example, an ER doctor was assigned to me who bore strong resemblance to the guy who gave me the head injury - and it was ugly. I arrived still postictal, and was hallucinating that he really was abusing me again. Therefore, I'd say it's very important that you guys do pay close attention to your suspicions, especially in the case of a disabled young lady, because if she is having seizures, it's all the more opportunity for someone to take advantage of the situation.

Watch people with seizures, please. You folks out there with milder forms who may know someone with more serious forms, please check in on them OFTEN. If you fear they are having problems, stick your nose in their business. I live in a place in America the Federal government has named the most uneducated place in Canada or the U.S.A. I know people with seizures here are treated horribly. The spousal abuse suffered by epileptics is astronmical. Some don't drive and go without groceries at times even though they have family. I know when epileptics suffer seizures in public, we go to the drunk tank not the hospital. I wear a medical alert I.D. I don't drink and was handcuffed and left in a cell for 20 hours. Please check on people. Please. The world is not educated enough about us. I'm not really sure from where I live too many folks other than WE care.
