My Father has a severe back pain :-(
Thu, 02/11/2010 - 13:10Hello, I am 18 years old and my father who is 47 years old had had an alcohol-withdrawl seizure on February 4, 2010. This is the first time (and the last time) he had a seizure. He is not a chronic alcoholic but very sensitive to even small amounts of alcohol. He had very frequent vomiting during alcohol withdrawl, and just when he was recovering, he had a seizure.
Well, he has partially recovered from the seizure, but the main problem is his severe back pain around the backbone region. I was with him all the time, while the seizure was happening, and he didn't hit anything to hurt his back or get himself injured. I can't understand the reason of his unbearable pain. He doesn't has any pain in his stomach or head or any other body part.
The doctors prescribed the following medicines which are now being taken :
1. Dilantin 100 mg Tablets (3 Doses a day)
2. Pantoprazole Tablets (2 Doses a day)
3. Folic Acid Tablets (1 Dose a day)
I read about drug interaction of Dilantin with Folic Acid, but I don't think that may cause such severe pain. He sometimes takes Ibuprofen(Brufen) pain killer 400 mg tablets.
He has a history of taking Alprax and Diazepam due to some sleeplessness problems. He hasn't taken Diazepam for around 2 years but he has been taking Alprax for quite some time. Please note that he hasn't taken a single dose of any of them, after having the seizure.
He also takes some nicotine in form of tobacco. :(
Please help me find out the reason of his back pain around the region of the backbone and respective cure. I shall be highly thankful to you.

I've been having small seizures recently, and had the exact same problem. I'm glad to see it isn't just me, but sorry that you both have to go through that :( I haven't found a way to relieve my back pain other than elevating my knees while I'm laying down. Pain killers don't seem to help at all. I also regret to say that it doesn't go away for a while. I hope you find your answer!
