My boyfriend suffers with epilepsy

Tue, 06/15/2010 - 11:21
My boyfriend got epilepsy in 2005. His seizures are very strange, he becomes very violent and shouts things out. He can actually stand up and walk about he punches and kicks and we have to try and stop him from hurting himself.  Sometimes he will just fall to the ground and shake but most the time he has these very violent episodes. Everybody else I have spoke to says they have never had anything like this.  Im just wondering if anybody on here has seizures like this.  I really dont know what to do anymore it seems to be getting worser and worser. I know this probably doesnt make much sense but I feel like I need to speak to somebody about it because it is really getting me down aswell.

First of all Claire, What kind of meds is he on, because if it's Keppra there's something known as "Keppra Rage" and it's quite dangerous.

This comes from research at the Zagred Epilepsy Center: "Psychosis is a known risk factor for epileptic patients to be violent and aggressive. One should not underestimate the length of post-ictal psychosis, which can be days or even longer. Both post-ictal psychosis and inter-ictal psychosis can trigger off well and not-well directed violent behaviour. Post-ictal mania is a less frequent event than psychosis and it is also a risk factor for violence."     Phylis Feiner Johnson    www.epilepsytalk.com

Yes, more information is needed. What medication or medications is he on? It may not be a symptom of his medication but more just a symptom of his epilepsy itself. By "everyone else I spoke to" Do you mean friends or Doctors? Friends aren't gonna be very helpful cause with epilepsy it always seems like everyone u know is normal and your the only one with any issues. With Doctors you may need to try quite a number of them before you get a Good one. The details are very important of the nature of his seizures and a Dr. needs to hear them.

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away" - Rev 21:4
