Migraines or Seizure Disorder?

Sat, 10/18/2014 - 15:50

Hi Everyone,

I need help with an issue concerning my one of my best friends. I've always known that she has occasional panic attacks, but she recently told me that she's been having migraines, then blacks out during them. She also says that when she gets these migraines, her fiance tells her she sometimes says random things that don't make any sense or repeats things, and she doesn't remember any of this afterward. She also gets a lot of headaches and experiences deja vu. The headaches could be because of stress (she has a job she hates and is planning her wedding), but everything else definitely fits the pattern of what happened to me before I was fully diagnosed with my epilepsy. I am really concerned because this is EXACTLY what my symptoms were. Luckily I had a seizure in front of my family one day and was taken to the hospital; that's how I found out about my condition. I've told her that this is what happens to me, and I've asked her several times to go to the doctor and she brushes it off.

The problem is that she lives nowhere near me and that I don't know her family at all, so I can't really talk to them. Her fiance would listen to me, but he doesn't have Facebook and I don't have his number. What can I do to convince her? ANY advice is appreciated. Thanks so much!

She could be having both. With some people they get migranes and seizures all in one. With otheres they have seizures and may get a migrane or headache now and then. Her deja vu could be an aura which is a seizure in itself. Those are warning of stronger and heaver seizures might be comming which gives them time to get to a safer place. If she is blacking out after the migrane then they may be seizures. The part about her talking and making no sense, repeating herself and hten not remembering it. Those too could be a different seizure. You might want to research the types of seizures since there are 40+ different seizures. Now you can also call the 24/7 hot liine and ask questions to people who take calls and yes a friend can ask questions or a loved one can. If yu realy want to reach out and discuss this issue with your friend then do some research and call the 24/7 line. They may have information on how to approch your friend. I hope this helps and your friend gets the assistance she meeds

Hi Joe,Thanks so much - I 'm going to tell her what you told me. I hope they're only migraines (that sounds weird - ONLY migraines). I'm also going to ask my neurologist as well. I'll also definitely going to call the hotline. Thanks for helping!
