involuntary noises or facial expressions

Wed, 06/16/2004 - 17:57
If I am concentrating hard or stressed out I tend to make noises. Deep in my throat. I am not even aware of them. My husband will ask if I am ok. Now I am told that I clench my jaw and have "strange" facial expressions that I am not aware of. My family wants me to act normal so that I don't embaress them. I'm not normal I know that. I just wonder if anyone else with epilepsy has the same type of behaviour. If so I would love to hear from you. Thanks so much. Stacey

mom,yep...I do it to. As far as "strange" facial expressions, yeah, but no stranger than some that I've seen other people make. However, My middle sister has done both all her life as well, and she doesn't have seizures. So the question comes up: Is it connected to the epilepsy? I've never thought about it before. But then again, I also grind my teeth and crack my knuckles if you see where I'm going. My brother drums his left hand on whatever is (forgive me) "handy", always the left hand. My father used to cross his right foot behind his left ankle and tap it on the floor as well as make weird noises in his mouth. My brother doesn't have seizures and to my knowledge my father never had any. My mom? And she still does, but denies it, will make the weirdest expressions with her mouth that anyone has ever seen. She also doesn't have seizures. So again, the question, is it connected to the epilepsy or just maybe to stress or concentrating? If it helps, although I don't know how old your child is, if you can, think of the different expressions you saw on that little face in front of a coloring book while coloring when the only thing in the world was that book. Does that change as we get older? When you say you're not normal, you're joking right? I guess I'm not the only one who's developed a little bit of a warped sense of humor about their epilepsy? You are normal. You have one thing that most so called normal people don't have though. You have Documented Medical Evidence that Your brain is actually functioning. Most of the so-called normal people in the world are under the mis-impression that the fact that they're moving aroung and talking is evidence of that. I'm no lawyer, but I believe that this is called circumstantial evidence. };>USMale

What you said makes sense. Everyone does something "strange" We all have our own personal habits. I just wondered if it could be seizure related. My child is at the age where she doesn't like anything I do. She is always telling me that I do something with my left leg and I don't know what she is talking about. If you read this and are interested please put on your email. I'd like to ask you something. Thanks for your input it gave me something to think about
