helppppppp irregular breathing
Mon, 11/15/2004 - 17:09hi, my son has choreathosistis which is a movement disorder. Also known as PKD/PKC. He also has seizures. Partial complex . He is on tegretal twice a day. My question is this: Have any of you ever experienced irregular breathing? Our son on three occasions started to breath irregulary. They were rapid short panting. He was not hyperventaling. He wasn't breathing in at all but panting.. I don't know if I should call his doctor or not. Could this be caused from a seizure??????/ Sometimes he has seizures and I don't realize it. . Any thoughts

Anything that affects breathing is serious, add a loved one and you worry big time. Call the doctor out, if only to reduce your worry, it will also confirm the connection between the breathing dificulties and the cause.
Breathing is one of the functions controlled by the brain, and a seizure screws up everything the brain controls. Epilepsy can cause everything from irratic breathing to no breath at all during the seizure.
