Has anyone ever hired a personal driver?

Sun, 02/06/2005 - 00:22
My fiancee was diagnosed w/ partial complex seizures approximately 8 mos ago. We are on medicine #3 and have made little progress. I know I don't have to tell you all how frustrated we are. Maybe our biggest problem at the moment is the driving. My fiancee is afraid he might lose his job. Has anyone ever hired a driver? If so, where do you find such a person? Any idea how much it may cost? Any info would be tremendously appreciated. Thanks so much.cp

Interesting idea. Does he need transportation throughout the day or just to get to and from his workplace? Have you explored taxis, public transportation, carpooling, or a job change? If medication #3 is not showing any signs of being effective, it may be time to consider another approach. Has he been evaluated at a comprehensive epilepsy center? Ask for a referral if you don't see real progress soon. He may be a candidate for other treatment approaches such as epilepsy surgery or vagus nerve stimulation. A new evaluation also might find some treatable cause for his seizures, or it may suggest that some other specific medication or combination has a really good chance of working well. Don't resign yourselves to living with seizures until you've explored all the options! Good luck.

When looking for a house I was lucky enough to buy one close to work. With that said I know other people that can't drive that make a deal with a taxi driver to pick them up and drop them off each day. It works well for both because it's steady money for the taxi driver and realible transpertation for you. Another thing, don't forget you can own a car even if you are with out a licence if that helps you. Some people have cut a deal with an older person that is retired that they must take you to work and other places, but they can use your car then. The exact deal has to be worked out to fit both of your circumstances.
