First Daytime Seizure

Thu, 09/11/2014 - 01:01

Hi everybody! First off, thank you for reading. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you taking the time to read this. I don't know anyone else with epilepsy to discuss this with for a better perspective. I'm not sure exactly what I'm hoping for on this forum. I honestly think it's just talking to others who have dealt with epilepsy, seizures and being concerned for your loved one. I'll start with a quick background.

My boyfriend was diagnosed with epilepsy in high school. He occasionally had seizures at night, about once or twice a year. We met in 2009 when I was 19 and he was 20. At this point, he had been seizure free for a year or two. Sometime in summer 2011, he had his first seizure in a few years. Since then, he has had one to two a year. They had always been while he was asleep.

Another thing I should mention are these little episodes or what I think are the warning of a seizure coming that he will have. These will usually happen the day of a seizure. They have had a few times here and there, but the majority have been on days he has had seizures. He will completely zone out and he says he hears noises, such as songs, explosions, etc. He said the sounds are never voices, just sounds he's heard before. As this is happening, he is able to make eye contact with me and acknowledge my presence. However, he is unable to speak or comprehend anything he tries to read or that is said to him.

Yesterday, around 1 PM, he told me had one of those episodes as he was walking back to his desk at work and rushed into the bathroom. It passed after a few minutes. Fast forward to around 4:30-5PMish. He had gotten home from work about ten to fifteen minutes prior. We were just laying on the bed talking and he said it was happening again. He said up and tried to talk to me a couple of times but both times his words just sounded jumbled. I tried to ask him yes or no questions to see if he was able to nod yes or no, which he was not. Then, he began to have the seizure.

I do know he is on Keppra and Depakota. I'm not sure about the dosage off the top of my head though.

Sorry, I didn't realize how long this actually took me. I will post more tomorrow.

What he is having are auras

What he is having are auras or now many people call partial seizures. To many people they are warning of a larger seizure which can happen that same day or within 24 hours. I have had a few of them and my broter tried to do just like you did and he got no answers either.  If your BF has been having more of these or they re different from the seizures he has been having before then you do need to get him to get with his doctor. If his dosages have not  been changed in a while that could also be a part of his issue. If he has chainged weight since his last dosages change it may need to be raised. The medication he is on are good meds I used depakote back in the 80's. Keppra is the best  medication I have ever used in the 50+ years I have been living and dealing with epilepsy. I hope this helps
