i have a 10 yr old daughter that has uncontrolled epilepsy for the most part we have been able to subside them but she has night time grand mal tonic clonic seisures now.she had 3 within 3 hours which isnt normal for her and im wondering how many seizures i have missed from them occuring while everyone is sleeping.is there a device that will beep or something when a grand mal is happening?im really worried about not knowing how many or frequent the seizures are in case of problems.any sugestions would be great

did you call the neuro? 3 tcs in 3 hours is serious. do you have a prn med (something like diastat) to administer at home? are you using a baby moniter for her room? that seems like an obvious first step - after you call the neuro.

yes i did call the neurologist and she has an appointment with our family doc tomorow to check for a hidden cold as a reason for the spurt of seisures.the neuro suggested asking him for adivan for when these happen.i got the monitor, and im looking at camera prices so i can document her sleep.i was hoping that there might be somesort of gizmo that would go off beeping or something when the muscles tighten and the jerking is happening that would be a great help.i was told that lamictal was known for nighttime seisures, and i may see about epival instead.she takes phenobarbitol, neurontin, lamictal, and rispordal right now though.

how does your little one seem to you today? this is such a bad time of year for catching things.... you almost hate sending them to school. i had also wondered if she were coming down with something. your daughter is on a lot of medications.... i wish something were working for her. i can't imagine a doc putting her on a 4th med without taking her off something. i don't know of any sort of gizmo that picks up movement... but that would be a question for a parents board and/or the neuro... the only thing remotely like it that i know of are those gizmos for training kids to not wet their bed..... if your daughter is incontinent with a seizure then at least you would know it had happened. i don't know how you parents do it.... i sleep so well i don't hear much in my sleep and you must get to that point from exhaustion. let us know what the doc says.
