Hi, You should probably call the doctor's office and get a copy of your son's report, or at the least see if you can find out what kind of epilepsy your son has. MRIs show the structure of a person's brain and help the doc identify a physical cause for seizures - things like scar tissue or calcifications. So an MRI can't show seizure activity, it can only show a structural cause for seizure activity. The exception to this would be if you were somehow fortunate enough to have had an fMRI, but that isn't a standard diagnostic tool for epilepsy. An EEG shows electrical activity in the brain. Different epilepsies have different patterns on EEGs, so it can be a very useful diagnostic tool. Some people have normal EEGs, but still have epilepsy. Stuttering is a verbal dysfluency and verbal dysfluency can be part of the "seizure package". It's common for people to have difficulties with speech during and after a seizure. Often people have difficulties finding words and that is called "aphasia". But stuttering could be a way of stalling while trying to find a word. In any case, talk to the school about having an evaluation by the speech therapist. Before you find scedule an appointment for your son, find out what kind of epilepsy he has. That will help the therapist. You should talk to your son's neuro about the "tics", they could be motor seizures. You should be able to ask the doctor questions and to have answers. Do you feel comfortable asking questions? Sometimes you can't ask all the questions you would like in a given meeting, especially if you have a long list of them during an initial meeting. Is your son on medication? How are you holding up? I hope you are both doing well.

Hi there I studder also I have always ever since my epilepsy. I have had brain surgery and it got worse but it is also because it is close to my speach. My DR. said  many people with epilepsy do have speach problems . The thing that I do after work each day is talk very slow and talk into a tape recorder, as I do that I listen to it back and it makes you speach better each day all because you hear what your saying. I heard that from my DR. She always says do that and it will improve you speach and she is right there. Limeridge..
