Is an elevated body temp common during a seizure

Mon, 04/14/2014 - 11:29

18 year old nephew had a full blown seizure out of the blue. Never had one before. His dad said that he was burning up to touch while this was going on. He was hospitalized overnight and then discharged with the hospital saying that they would set up appointments with experts in the next little while. He did have a brain scan which showed no injury or tumors.  So right now we are in limbo but I am wondering if the elevated body temp is common with epilepsy or could this be something else? I know no one here can diagnose but we are searching for help as we wait.

Thanks Todd Presently we do not even know if this is a one time thing or the beginnings of epilepsy. There is so much to learn. Can they diagnose from an EKG or Catscan? There is no history in either family of this condition.

No, rigs and CT scans are not

No, rigs and CT scans are not tools to diagnose epilepsy. Only An EEG, sometimes several of them can tell. Most people with epilepsy does NOT have a family history of epilepsy. Epilepsy can happen to any one, at any age. There are types of epilepsy that occur in early childhood, others with teenage year onset, others adult onset. Now, to answer your question, my son got a seizure out of the blue when he turned 15. It was out of the blue. All test normal. No family history and perfect health, clean tests, but he is epileptic. He was very warm to the touch while it was happening, I think this is common while seizing, many even have heat rashes because they get so hot. I hope that everything goes well. Glad to hear that he had referred to a neurologist.
