6 MONTH OLD INFANT POSSIBLY HAVING SEIZURES

Wed, 04/06/2005 - 02:13
I am in desperate need of help and/or advice. My 6 month old son has been having these "episodes" where he gets a blank stare, he stops breathing, and will not respond to anything. Afterwards, he is very out of it, and falls asleep. We have rushed him to our local Childrens hospital twice in the past couple months and doctors can't find anything wrong with him. Doctors have done a 3 day EEG, a CT Scan, and an MRI, and found nothing. Right now they are saying it could be acid reflux, but I just don't believe that's it. I have done tons of research on seizures, but still don't see a definite answer. If it's seizures then what kind are they? And from the research I've done, I can't figure out any cause of the seizures? I can't find much specific to seizures in infants. Does anyone have any information that may help me? Thank you so much!!Kelly

Oh I am sorry for the trouble you are having. Check low blood sugar, sodium, magnesium, calcium, vit d, iron and b vitamins. If your baby is low in any of these, you can have a seizure also.hope this helps.http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/EpilepsyApproach/Lisa

Just a guess... Maybe your child is having what are called Atypical Absence Seizures.

More details on this website www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/seizure_atypicalabsence.html

The 'falls asleep' part might be the post-ictal phase where they're recovering and trying to regain more strength. Diet and/or something else unknown yet, just may be doing something to cause this.

That was what happened on my baby too. she is 8 months old, she had that "blank episode" last week and this morning. she also had it almost 2 months ago, and couple times of tonic-clonic seizure. she was diagnosed with epilepsy since last month. and since then been medicated with Epilim syrup (sodium valproate). i am so confused, why my little baby still have these seizures?
