Told EEG is abnormal

Mon, 12/29/2014 - 09:48

I was in ER the Dec 19-20th due to complete loss of all motor skills yet mentally alert, fully aware of my surroundings, I can feel pain just body unresponsive I did not respond to the multiple painful chest rubs, or tongue depresser shoved down my throat but I knew they were doing everything to figure out why I was completely unresponsive eyes closed... I had an episode6 days prior at home this one was upon leaving the hospital after daughters brain MRI. They did multiple test, Chest CT, Brain CT both w/out contrast, Brain MRI,MRA,MRV, Carotid duplex, Heart US, ECG, EEG, EKG, Multiple Labs...All came back normal except Carodid duplex showing valve issues , and EEG results are below. I did follow up wth neurologist after getting my results he called me day before Christmas Eve said due to the abnormal EEG he wants me to start medication called Keppra 250mg 1tab 2xs daily. My body shuts down slowly never a sudden drop I do have warning first feel like a wave of something comes over me feel detached making my body feel unstable but not dizzy, some times I feel like I'm spiritually feeling pulled to the side, no convulsions ever. Doctor will be away till Jan 6th I'm not comfortable with going on meds without clearly understanding what type of seizures I'm having...nor we're these results below explained to me just told abnormal.

My Study Result

DATE OF RECORDING:  12/19/14

EEG#: xxxxxxxx

This is an awake, drowsy, and sleep study on this 44-year-old with recurrent
seizures.  She is not taking any anticonvulsant.

TECHNICAL SUMMARY:  The occipital alpha rhythm is 10-11 cycles per second,
very well sustained and regulated.  Similar activity is present in the
anterior head region bilaterally.  In relation to drowsiness.  Bitemporal slow
activity with sharp and slow waveform are noted occurring synchronously and
independently on either side.  Hyperventilation and photic stimulation add no
new information.

During drowsiness and sleepiness the bitemporal dysrhythmia was noted.
Otherwise, the sleep spindles, vertex sharp waves are synchronous and
symmetrical.

IMPRESSION:
This electrogram is abnormal.  The findings are suggestive of bitemporal
dysrhythmia with which a convulsive tendency could be associated.

Serial EEGs in the future would be indicated if clinical diagnosis is in
doubt.

You want information from

You want information from people who have seizures and epilepsy. This information is comming from the person what either did the EEG or read it. Abnormalities in an EEG generally are seizuree activity (not a seizure itself).  IMPRESSION:This electrogram is abnormal. The findings are suggestive of bitemporaldysrhythmia with which a convulsive tendency could be associated If this where mine I would be calling the neurologists office and finding out more information. 1 Does this mean I could have seizures?2 Does this mean I have epilepsy?3 Is keppra the best medication for me? As for keppra   If you are worrying about this issue you need to think about what not going on medication can do. The longer I waited since I was having seizures and not knowing it the more frequent they became and they got stronger. What I was having were focal seizures and petite mal seizures. AKA absence seizures. Both can look like a person is day dreaming. I had been written up for day dreaming in class for about a year. I hope this helps and you get the assistance you need. Joe
