Scared out of my mind!

Sun, 01/17/2016 - 12:55
My Son and Daughter in law live with me. My DIL is 29. She has had epilepsy since she was 12. I don't know that much about her epilepsy. Usually she feels them coming on, or my son notices and he alwYs holds her till they are over. A few days ago, I was taking a nap and my son had gone out for an hour or so to run errands. My DIL wasn't feeling well and had a stomach virus and had been throwing up. The night before my son had wanted to take her to ER, but she said she would be fine. When he came back, he found his wife lifeless. He ran and got me. When I saw her she was completely unresponsive and pale and ice cold. I slapped her face several times and yelled for her to come back and my son was holding her saying "No baby, no! We called 911 and they told my son to do COR on her. We couldn't lift her to put her on the ground but my son started compression. And breathed in her mouth. Finally she made a small deep groan. I wasn't sure if that was the death rattle or what but he kept on and she ga e out another slight groan. Finally 911 came and took her into the living room and worked on her. Then they took her in the ambulance to the hospital. Before they left they told me she had a gag reflex, so there was a measure of hope. Had people praying. When we got to hospital, Miraculously, she had gained a bit of consciousness and saw my son and tried to smile. She said a couple words. After testing, they said she had aspirated some bile into her lungs. They put her on IV antibiotics as she had aspiration pneumonia. Since she was feeling so ill the night before, we think she must have aspirated before the incident. She had spittle in the side of her mouth, which Me too! Son says she always had when she has had a seizure. DIL says she thinks she had an extended seizure. Her hair hurt and so she thinks she banged her had against headboard. Her whole body hurt. So maybe the tension from the seizure affected muscles? I'm not sure what really happened. She didn't seem to be breathing when we found her. It frightens me how close she was to death, or even brain damage. She has applied for disability, but at this point she has no insurance. My son is on disability himself as he has serious health issues. So my DIL can't really go to a dr, much less go to an epilepsy dr. Her dr from her teenage years writes her epilepsy medication for her. I am still reeling from how close we were to losing her. The image of her so lifeless and cold won't leave my head. I'm going to go take a CPR class. Is there any other advice as to how to avoid this from ever happening again?
