program for a seizure log.

Just drawing epi-help's attention to the blog re an on-line seizure log. I sort of do one but I would love it to be 'on-line; or downloadable, Basically what I do is for each month I print out a one month from a blank outlook diary. Along the side I then have each med colour coded ( as the dose goes higher or lower the width of the line changes). I also have a colour code for the type of seizure - my daughter has everything from simple partials to secondary generalised and often has a number of different types on one episode, So when she has a seizure I make a mark on that day in each of the colours in the order they occurred - I also write in the time they each lasted, any triggers or injuries. I also keep a small seizure diary that is produced by the local epilepsy support group, that has greater detail eg what she was doing, what was observed etc. It is good – its really easy to see the movements of the seizures in relation to the meds, and whether there are any patterns or changes happening –I have two months on one page. If there is a problem I can also send it by email to my daughters Neuro by scanning it. pasting it i n a word document and emailing it to him ( he is interstate) Then we talk by phone and discuss what to do next. So far I have played at reproducing this usoing excel – the idea being that when I click on an episode it can open up a cell with the greater detail I now keep in the diary. But I’m not computer savvy enough to know how to do this, and I don’t know whether Excel is the right program or if there is a better one. So anyone out there who can do this, I think it would be great

Michtom, That is fantastic! It sounds like you have a great system that simply needs to be 'computerized'. In a previous life, I was a software developer. So, I have a good idea how this kind of thing can be worked out. I would think that Epilepsy.com could really make all our lives easier and attract people who need this feature like a magnet! I don't need near the detail you do, but to have it on the web is perfect for EVERYONE! Thanks for your support. I think this could be a very real help. Might even save some of us from avoidable agony!! Thanks, Larry

Probably be best if I email it to you direct - what's the address? As I said at the moment there is a lot of manual work and I just scan & paste, but an online system seems so much more sensible because the level of information could be changed easily so that you could get a longidutional view, or even if it could be worked so it could report against different information cells (eg triggers) . As part of my work I write manage and briefs for the contracting of different types of projects (including some online) , so maybe one idea would be to draft a set of ' user & technical requirements' for such a program and then post it here for feedback (I'll volunteer a first draft if you want, then you ad or amend as you see fit ebfore you post if you want). After that if it can be put together I'm certainly happy to be in a trial group of users and provide feedback and suggestions re navigation etc and I'm sure others would to. In that way as a forum we can build something that can provide the flexibility to be used by people with diffrent situations and types of E. Obvioulsy the issue of privavcy is something that will have to be adressed, but there are some failry straight foreards ways to handle that now.
