PLEASE HELP! Seizure during sleep?!

Wed, 06/28/2017 - 03:26
Hi. I'm a 21 year old female and I experienced a grand mal seizure about 3 weeks ago. I went to the dr and had an eeg for 30 minutes and the results were normal. I was requested to do a 3 hour sleeping EEG and the results turned out to be abnormal and the symptoms were most likely to be experienced with someone who has idiopathic epilepsy. My dr is out of town and i will be seeing him in a few days so the 3 hour results EEG and the requested MRI will be further discussed when i see him. Ever since the seizure, i have been zoning out and jerking vigorously during my sleep for almost everyday and i also have a blank stare on my face suddenly during the day. I experienced something very strange just now and it's okay currenly 9:30am. I feel like i had sleep paralysis and a seizure. I was asleep and I don't recall having a nightmare or a bad dream, noises or sounds or anything like that. I just remember falling asleep and suddenly my body felt paralyzed. I couldn't move, speak or yell and my hands tensed up snd my legs were shaking vigorously and my eyes were rolling. I was alone and i felt these symptoms. Did i have a seizure? From what I understand, people can't feel their seizures so I don't know. I woke up exhausted, rapid heart beat and chest pains but aware of my surroundings and not drowsy.. I have been sleep deprived because I'm afraid of falling asleep.

epilepsy has a lot of variety

epilepsy has a lot of variety, people can feel many kinds of focal seizures and supposedly some slow to start/stop generalized seizures (e.g. atypical absence, my child didn't recognize those or the brief myoclonics as seizures so did not report those). so it's a learning process on what is going on with you. you can record any odd episodes (type, duration, time either in calendar or seizure tracker app) and you will be able to discuss these with your doc and see impact of meds (increased meds always reduced reported events with our child, I didn't say that meds were increased and most of the time she wasn't aware unless we switched to a larger syringe for dosing - you can't be as unaware so recording your events along in relation to dosing changes is one way to share data in appts).

First and foremost you need

First and foremost you need rest. By the sounds of it you are epileptic and if you deprive yourself of sleep you will have more seizures. My first seizure was in my sleep. You will be put through a battery of tests so prepare yourself.
