Night Seizures? And possible other seizures

Sun, 11/16/2014 - 01:15

I am almost 21 years old and was diagnosed with a seizure disorder in 2011 when I was 17. I use to just have twitches and migraines, and so my doctor did an EEG and saw small spikes and he put me on Keppra. Me and my family have since started noticing other things happening. During the day I will "zone out". This happens in one of two ways. One is I can hear people talking but cannot grasp what they are saying everything kind of has the effect of me being in a slow motion tunnel. Usually with these my eyes look down and my family says I look like no one is home. The second way is I am "zoned out" again but I can remember what is being said around me, but I cant react to it. So if someone says a joke and i think it is funny I cant laugh or smile, but as soon as it passes i am smiling at whatever was said. I also have instances where i am in the middle of a conversation and will just start saying "um um um" repeatedly because for the life of me I cant remember what i was saying or form a coherent saying other than "um". Sometime when my head feels funny like one of these episodes is about to happen I go ahead and set myself up to zone out. I feel that by doing that I am not so anxious or confused when it passes. Another thing i have realized is complete confusion and horrible anxiety. It will start out of nowhere. My head will feel kind of tingly or funny, and I feel so lost and anxious. I was once in walmart for an hour when this happend. I got there at about 8:15 and the next time i looked t my phone is was 9. I have no idea where I went or what i did for that hour in walmart other than a vague memory of walking and calling my mom, and i dont even know what i said to her. Are these seizures? And if so what kind are they and what usually helps?

Now for the possible night seizures. Once when i was first diagnosed I woke up ehausted and had peed the bed, which had NEVER happened before so I have wondered if i had a seizure then. Not long after i was put on the keppra and nothing else happened until recently. Sometimes I will wake up after have slept 9-10 hours and feel like i have not slept at all. The whole day all i can do is lay there and sleep. If i try to get up and do things i get nausous and a headache. I feel like i cant move or function. At night I have been known to completly mess up my blankets and wake up with items like my glasses knocked on the floor, which are usually on my night stand. There are also instances where I will get an extremely bad migraine after a night like the ones above, and nothing will make it better. The ER will give me something and it will ease it but after a few hours it returns. It can last anywhere from a day to week. Is it possible i am having night seizures? Also on the nights that one of those episodes happen I might lose some bladder control but will still "wake up" and have to use the restroom. This is all really embarrassing but i am hopeing someone has had this experience and knows something more about it.

In your first paragraph what

In your first paragraph what you posted could be partial seizures. I say that because at times while in school I would be asked by a teacher a question. I heard the question and was trying to answer it while i heard and understood the question and was answering it the words cane out later after teh teacher had moved to the next student and they were answering it. I was zoned out at times in other cases. For about 1 1/2 years I was being written up for day dereaming in class. Those day dreans were absence seizures or focal seizures which also look like partial seizures. Your second paragraph could also be seizures and they could land in several areas. Being tired after waking up can be what a person is after having a seizure. Seizures drain the body of energy. While in a seizure your body is reacting to electrical impulses go your bladder can and at times release fluids. Migrains can come during and after a seizure for many people. If you have questions there is a 24/7 help line which has people that can answer many questions of any kind. Keppra is becomming th go to medication. I have been on it for years. It not only reduced the number of seizures I was having it also shortened the time in those seizures as well as the time to focus (get back to normal). You might call your neurologist and discuss this issue with him/her. If you were put on keppra and there have been no changes to the dosage then it is possiable the dosage needs to be increased or decreased. Too much medication is just as bad as too little. generally after putting someone on a medication my neurologist had his patients come in to discuss the number of seizures they are having and if there are any side effects he needs to know about. During that visit he changes the dosage if needed. When I ws put on keppra I talked to him after a month. We then talked after 3 months. The next visit was 6 months. After those if thing were going right the visit was 1 year. I have a good relationship with doc so the first 2 visits were done with phone calls. After the first he did call in another RX because the dosage needed to be increased. I hope this helps and you get seizure free Joe
