Juvenile myoclonic epilepsy triggers

Fri, 03/23/2012 - 08:04
Hi, I have recently been diagnosed with Juvenile myoclonic epilepsy as I had a tonic clonic seizure (age 40) and some strange episodes as an adolescent, which until now have never had a formal explanation. These events (very brief "short circuits is how I would explain them) only occurred when I was playing the piano and doing ballet. I am unable to find anything on the internet about triggers such as this, although the neurologist briefly mentioned that concentration can cause seizures. Has anyone ever had a similar experience or read anything that would better explain it? Thanks in advance.

Some types of epilepsy are triggered by specific things, and music can be one. Look at types of epilepsy on the home page, and look for Reflex epilepsies, and musicogenic epilepsy.
