I think I had a seizure today, but I'm not sure.

To start I will let you know that I am a 15-yr old girl. So, I think I had my first seizure. I'm not sure, the reason being it would be my first if it really was one. I wanted to post about what happened and get some other people's thoughts about it. I was just sitting down watching T.V. (TWD marathon) when I got up to go downstairs and get some food. When I stood up I got dizzy, which happens frequently to me. This time felt a little bit different though. I had walked over to the staircase and that's when the dizziness got worse. My eyesight got very blurry and I started having little black dots, I guess "cover" my vision. I knew it wasn't going to be safe for me to walk, because when I got dizzy spells before I would stumble and bump into things and fall over on occasion. I sat down, using the handle on the staircase, to sit myself down easier, without hurting myself or falling over. This is where it got very confusing for me so I apologize if it gets a bit weird to read here. After I sat down, I don't remember laying down, but apparently I did, and I was aware of my body, but I couldn't move it and I felt it shaking a lot. I was also highly aware of my breathing. More than I usually am. When I regained consciousness, I sat up and looked around, really confused about what had just happened and it couldn't have been more than five minutes, because the show hadn't really progressed much. I slowly got myself up and walked over to the chair and sat down and have been here for just a bit over an hour and have had a headache since I got back up.

Orthostatic hypertension will

Submitted by ffetherbay3345 on Tue, 2016-11-08 - 10:41
Orthostatic hypertension will cause some of the symptoms you experienced, but not all. I have both epilepsy and orthostatic hypertension. The way your body locked up along with the loss of consciousness are not related with OH. The dizziness, rapid breathing, dots and so forth are. It is caused by moving from a sitting to standing position or moving too quickly if caused by a heightened fight or flight response. If you did have a seizure, it is also very possible it may be a one time thing. One or two seizures in a healthy person is normal and not nessaccerily a sign of epilepsy or seizure disorder. Since you are fifteen, your bodies hormonal changes could have been a trigger for a one time episode. See a neurologist for both the OH possibility and the seizure possibility. They are the physicians who have the knowledge you need on these things, as it is their field. General practitioners are not well enough versed to trust on these matters.
