Having seizures After using the computer

I have been using the computer a lot more lately during the day and in the evening or during the night (when I am the most prone for getting them) I have been having mini-seizures. Do you think there could be a connection? I have simple partial epilepsy. Thanks Elsea

Elsea, Yes, it is a possibility. You can get a screen for the moniter that will filter the brightness or take a few steps to change the settings on the computer to help mute the brightness. 1. Right-click on any open space on your screen. A little window should appear. Click on 'Properties'. The 'Display Properties' box should open. At the top of the box, you will see the tab that says 'Desktop'. Click on that. Click on the different backgrounds offered and find one that is muted and easy on your eyes. When you choose one, click on 'Apply' at the bottom right of the box...this will make it show up on your screen and give you a better idea of how bright it will be. If you don't like it, just click another. Once you have found one you like click 'Apply'. 2. Now click the 'Appearance' tab at the top of the box. The middle rectangle is the 'Color Scheme'. Click on the arrow at the right of the rectangle, click on 'Silver'. Click 'Apply' and 'OK'. This will help soften the foreground. 3.At the bottom of your moniter, you have three buttons. Push the first button. You will see different icons. Using the (+) button, push until it goes to the icon that is round - half of the circle is light and the other half is dark. Push the first button again. Now you should see a graph. Using the (+) button again, darken your screen to however muted you want the brightness to be. Push the (-) button if you feel you get it too dark. When you get it to where you want it, push the first button again. The icons will show up again. Using the (+) button go to the 'Exit' icon. Push the first button. Now you are set. I hope this helps. Smiles! -Spiz

Here's a link to photosensitive epilepsy and computer use that may be of help. Some other tips - take frequent breaks, use computer in well lit room, sit far enough back, avoid programs/games with fast flashing lights etc. People who notice that certain activities increase likelihood of seizures, should try changing time of day when they do that activity. If events happen most in evening or when tired, use computer in the morning after a good night's sleep.Keeping track of what helps and what doesn't helps and share info with the treating doc to shed more insight! Here is some extra reading - including one recent study that doesn't think computer use is a problem.
