I was diagnosed with epilepsy 2007 possibly from Lyme Disease and multiple head injuries. Started on depakote which caused excessive weight gain so switched to Keppra and trileptal which did fine on. Do to loosing medical card have had to switch, have tried Dilantin had very bad side effects so now on tegrotol. I cant drive live in a rural area and no one wants to hire you (even if could drive) when they find you have epilepsy which they use another excuse and if you need time off do to disease they want someone whose going to be there. I have no insurance cant afford doctor and hospital bills let alone meds. trying for disiability but we know how that goes. I also suffer from depression anxiety from this Im not in control of my life any more. Have problems from the Lyme disease Im just at my wits end,:(

I too have a seizure disorder and am unemployed right now (looking for a job, on unemployment with no insurance but still try to see doctors and take meds.) But unlike you, I was never diagnosed with epilepsy. Dr.'s never really did tell me why I suddenly started to have seizures in 2009, or if I have epilepsy or a seizure disorder. I think I have a seizure disorder myself so that is what I tell people. I take Phenytoin (generic of Dilantin), but it is the only antiseizure pill I take that I know is better than Tegretol. On Tegretol I was like two different people, nice one minute and mean the next. I too feel at my wits end cuz I have seizures, don't know what they are caused from, hate them and the side effects of seizures, plus I hate the side effects of my pills too. I also take an anxiety pill for anxiety plus Phenytoin makes me nauseated. I have also noticed I get depressed quite often (depression is a side effect of seizures) and I am losing my memory as well. Things I used to know like someones name, I forget it and then I spend all this time trying to remember it. I do remember most of the time, but I HATE the memory loss! Good luck with your situation and remember that things will get better!
