Could having Gastric Bypass Surgery trigger seizures later on?

Fri, 05/15/2009 - 19:31

Im brand new to this forum so i will appoligise if there was another thread stared about the same thing.  I underwent Gastric Bypass surgery 19 months ago.  After one year and two months out I had a series of severe seizures all in one day.  I was hosptialized in ICU for 4 days.  I felt fine when i went into the ER and fine when i left the hosptial after 6 days.  Just Dizzy from the Keppra  they placed me on.

These come on me while I was sleeping.  I hit my husband in his back with my head.  This was 4am.  I dont remember nothing until about 4pm that evening.  He stated i told him he was not to call the rescue squad for me.  It was my little brother who just so happened to stop by to tell me I had to go get checked.

I have had several of these since that time.  Most occur during the night and usually upon waking up.  My husband states its like I have my eyes open but the lights are not on.   If I get up for work I know If I have had one because im litteraly exhausted.  I will sleep for hours after having one.

Has anyone ever experinced this after having this type of surgery or am I gasping at straws.  I have had 3 MRI's and found out that my Putitary gland is very big but it has not grown any since being dianosed with a enlarged one.  Im now on 2000mg of Keppra twice a day.  Yes that is not a typo.  I see my neurologist every other month along with a Endiocrinologist for the gland being enlarged.

The only thing I can think of that has changed with in the last 8 months is having a flu shot and a DTAP shot 2 weeks before this started.  I went into Menopause.

If anyone can help me or point me in some direction please do so.  Thank you.

My husband had the bypass

My husband had the bypass August 2016. He had a lap band first and it twisted,  caused scar tissue. They did the bypass, he lost 8 pints if blood and almost died. He was weak for a long time. He had his first seizure Dec. 2016. We notice that he has them when he doesn't rest/sleep well. He has been to ER and Dr but know one has answers. He just had another one. I am concerned since this started after the surgery.
