Thu, 10/14/2010 - 17:05

Hi all

I am very new on here and hoping someone may be able to help

I am planning on adopting a 2yr old little one who has been diagnosed with Cortical Dysplasia and Hyperplasia

I have tried to google this condition and have become terrified and overwhelmed by the info

has anyone on here any experience

from what we can understand the little one has stiffening down one side, has had some vacent fits, was slow in walking but now at 19 months can stand and walk alone

little one is communicating normally

really not sure what the prognosis is for this condition and what the reality would be to parent this child

any advice would be really well recieved

My 6 year old daughter has cortical dysplacia with difficult to control epilepsy. In her case she has had seizures since birth and the most we have been seizure free is 3 months. For now, drugs can only help with the seizures but there is no cure for this condition other than surgery. In our case, Doctors are still debating on this option. It is hard to determine if the condition will get worse over time. Each patient is different. It all depends on the location and extend of the dysplacia as well as how well the patient reacts to the drugs if there are seizures present.

thank you for your reply. She is on no drugs at the moment and has not as yet had a seizure. We have been told that the neurologist believes that the dysplasia is only related to movement. Could this be true or would your experience be that it is always worse than this?
