Ask Epi Chat

Tue, 06/23/2009 - 21:52

Hi everyone,

Sorry I couldn't join the Ask Epi chat last thursday... I was traveling and the hotel I was in wasn't giving me good internet access. I'll be in this Thursday, from 8 to 9 pm east coast time. This will be a time to ask questions about epilepsy, or share concerns, feedback and questions about the site. I know some people have had lots of thoughts lately and have shared them with me by email. Stop by chat if you want to talk about it some more, or keep emailing me!

Thanks again for all of your help and support in making this a great site!

See you Thursdays at 8 pm EST.

All the best,

Epi_help, Resource Specialist

Behavior issues in children with seizures is not uncommon but sometimes it can be difficult to sort out why. Changes in behavior could occur before, during or after a seizure. If so, getting better seizure control would be the needed. If not related to the time of the seizure, behavioral changes could occur as a result of underlying disturbance in the brain, or as a side effect of medicine. And in some children, behavior problems or changes occur separately from the seizures. For example, attention difficulties that cause problems with ADD or ADHD or mood problems tend to occur more in children with seizures than in children without. When problems are seen, it's a good idea to write down observations of your own and from others (teachers, family members, babysitters etc) and talk to the doctor caring for your child's seizures. They may recommend a psychologist to look at these problems in more detail and sort out how best to address them.

Take a look at the info under For Families, that discusses mood and behavior in children.

 Hope this helps!

Please accept my apologies.. we changed time of Ask Epi chat to 9 pm and I couldn't make it last night!

I'll be in chat this weekend (Sat and Sun) so grab me if you want! Also, feel free to email me at patty@epilepsytherapyproject.org.

I've had lots of questions about the diary by email. Keep them coming if you are having any problems or just have questions on how to use it. Any ideas - also  let me know!

Have a good day!
