Yes, of the many medicines used to treat seizures, some are approved, and work better for some seizure types than others. There are also some medicines that may work against many different types of seizures. Finding out which medicine a person should take depends on having an accurate diagnosis, then looking at other factors such as possible side effects, a person's other health problems, other medicines a person may take and possible interactions, and so on. While some medicines may make mood worse in some people, other medicines seem to help moods and are used for certain psychiatric conditions. Thus, choosing a medicine for seizures should be done by someone who has an understanding of the effect of medicines on mood and thinking and knows about the person.
