Am I seizure free?

Sat, 10/29/2016 - 17:58
Hi, I have a question regarding my epilepsy. I've had it for 12 years and never had a big seizure, as in whole body shaking or been unconscious. The worst that happens to me is shaking a bit in my arms if I'm very tired or hungover. I can tell when it's coming and all I need to do is rest a bit for it to stop. I want a driving licence and I know I need two seizure free years first, but u wonder if it could be possible for me still do get it or does it count as seizures? Thanks Maddie

The worst that happens to me

The worst that happens to me is shaking a bit in my arms <<<  Those are seizures. There are many different seizures and you might want to research them. Just because you haven't had a convulsive seizure does not mean you will never have one. Also if you are hesitant for even a second that is enough time for you to have an accident while driving.I know when I have my seizures. I also know what's going on around me. I have had focal seizures most of my life. In them the only thing that happens is my right hand feels weird or numb. While that is happening I can do everything. The thing that  I can't do is use my hand. Which means is if I was driving I could have a wreck

Sounds mostly like a partial

Sounds mostly like a partial or complex partial seizures (petite mal seizures), recognized by the "silent" onset and symptoms. The worse thing you can do is drink with any type of epilepsy. The alcohol induces seizures by increasing the electrical activity within the brain. If you want to get your license back, it is extremely important out do all you can on your side to stop any and all activities that increased electrical activity or lower the seizure threshhold. Smoking, high amounts of caffeine, alcohol in any amount, and certain foods as well (grapefruit is one oddly enough as it alters the way the medications are metabolized). Do your research and take control of your habits to better improve the effectiveness of your medication and lessen the frequency of your seizures and you should reach your goal of receiving your license.
