Am I having nocturnal seizures??

Thu, 01/25/2007 - 17:18
Lately I have been having these "attacks" in my sleep. They only last about a second, just long enough to "jar" me out of my sleep. They feel like a big zap of electrcity going through my head. Sometimes they are way more violent then other times. But they are scary. I just started reading up on this and found out that nocturnal seizures do exsist. Is there anyone out there that has theses same sensations? What have you done about it?

Funnyy sensations or movements during sleep can be tough to sort out, and can be due to a sleep problem, or symptoms of seizures. People can also have brief jerking movements that awaken them from sleep, usually occur as falling asleep or in drowsy state that aren't seizures. It helps to write down what happens and if anyone has seen them, get their observations too. Then talk to doctor so they can determine what needs to be done to evaluate them.

Good luck!

Wow. I thought I was the only one. I too, have been experiencing these weird feelings as I TRY to fall asleep. It's as if the room starts to spin, or....hmmm...I can't quite put my finger on it. My heart palpitates and it makes me wake up right away. Yet, I'm not fully asleep yet. I've been taking Gravol whenever I experience this to calm me down, and to help me relax and sleep. But it almost makes me NOT want to sleep for fear I will experience a seizure without even being asleep yet.

Events like this can be monitored pretty easily.. talk to the doctor about getting a sleep test where they can look at EEG, respiratory, heart and muscle movements and try to sort out these things. It's wise to talk to a doctor first about what's causing it as some of these over the counter medicine can aggravate seizure events. Good luck!
