Advice Needed

I could really use some advice. Last year I discontinued (with my nuerologists knowledge) my anti-seizure medication as my husband and I are trying to have children. It has been over a year and even though we have not conceived yet, I have not had any seizures. My nuerologist and I are butting heads because he feels that I should not drive. Through ardious research I was able to figure out that my seizures were being triggered by lack of sleep (as in a 2-4 hours of sleep a night over the course of a few weeks) and stress. I feel that now that I make sure that I get enough sleep 7-8.5 hrs and I keep my stress levels low, that I have gotten my seizures under control. Am I crazy for thinking this? I really prefer not to be on medication, especially if I have found another method of controlling my seizures. I should mention that I have three seizures in my entire life (in 2006, 2008 and 2009). Thank you.

I went 3 years without a seizure and was still taking meds only to have another seizure. You do research and have checked your triggers. Well I did that too only to find out I have another trigger which is getting to hot to fast. There are more triggers than the ones listed on charts. Those listed are many of the main triggers. Which means those need to be watched. Have you checked with your neurologist to see if there are other triggers you need to check on. Also when was your last EEG and was it clear. If recently  and it wasn't clear then you can still have seizures.I hope this helpsJoe

If you are considering

If you are considering becoming pregnant there are many new anti-epileptic drugs which will allow you to have a normal pregnancy. Talk to your doctor and find out which is best for you. Going off your meds will only harm you and the child you want. Whatever is causing seizures cannot be ignored, it will not go away.
